COLCHESTER SPORTS PARK & NORTHERN GATEWAY

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Colchester Borough Council, working in partnership with Breheny Civil Engineering Ltd and RG Carter Construction, set out to deliver a brand new 76 acre sports centre called Colchester Sports Park, a first phase of the councils plans to bring a 200,000sq ft Leisure Park to Colchester called ‘Northern Gateway’.

Northern Gateway will be a place where local people and visitors alike can live, work, relax and shape happy, healthy lifestyles for themselves and their families – with plans to fully open in early summer 2024.

The opening of the multi-million pound Colchester Sports Park in 2021 was a major step forward. It included a state of the art leisure centre, rugby clubhouse, numerous external sport pitch facilities, along with large scale onsite parking to cope with the high demand from the new Northern Gateway.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

The council needed to create accessible parking areas, which were fully DDA compliant.

Macadam access roads were installed, alongside our CORE COMMERCIAL porous pavers for the parking bays – our product was chosen to help reduce costs whilst also improving the overall aesthetic.

A green overflow car park was also required, using our SuDS compliant CORE GRASS panels.

CORE GRASS provided strong, sustainable overflow green parking areas, which blended in with the natural surroundings flawlessly.
