PROJECT BRIEF:

PROVIDE A LEVELLED DRIVEWAY THAT WAS POTHOLE AND WATERLOG FREE.

On this project our clients were a group of eight families who are all residents living on National Trust Land in Maidenhead, Berkshire. The trust had insisted on a new gravel road as the existing gravel was waterlogged and filled with pot holes due to its close proximity to a now redundant pond. The residents were unhappy that the road was a nuisance to drive on as the pot holes were rapidly increasing due to the frequent care use and weekly refuge collection.

PRACTICAL SOLUTION:

INSTALL DRIVEWAY USING CORE DRIVE 50-35 HDR.

To resolve our clients frustration, we provided a levelled driveway that was pot hole and water log free.To fix the pot hole problem, Core Landscape Products repaired and regraded the patch using MOT type 1 subbase material and then levelled the road using a thin blinding of sharp sand. Using our specialist landscaping products, we then laid and filled CORE DRIVE 50-35HDR stabilizer grids with an angular 10/14mm golden flint gravel leaving a levelled surface. Although this does not constitute a truly SuDS compliant subbase there was adequate run off into adjacent vegetation for the system to drain.

ADVANTAGES:

“This product gave us exactly what we were looking for… a firm, free draining access road with no pot holes” (Residents Committee)

Using a gravel stabilisation grid meant the existing surface could be utilized as part of the sub base. This significantly reduced costs and had a positive impact on the environment. We made sure the stabilisation grid wasn’t visible, keeping within the Nationals Trusts requests. The surface is now flat, firm and pot hole free.
