PROJECT BRIEF:

FREE DRAINING SURFACE THAT OFFERED DISABLED ACCESS

Our clients existing block paved driveway was uneven and had sunken in one specific area due to drainage problems. They wanted a free draining surface that was disabled friendly and could incorporate an access ramp to the front door, making entry easier for their elderly mother who had recently moved in with them

PRACTICAL SOLUTION:

REPAIR SUBBASE ACROSS DRIVE AND FILL USING CORE DRIVE STABILISER 50/30

We suggested using CORE Drive 50/30 gravel stabiliser with a 6mm golden gravel fill, to provide a DDA compliant surface. We stripped up the block paving, recycled it and created the new access ramp. We removed the sand bedding layer, cleaned out the surface water drains and renewed a collapsed section of drainage pipe. We excavated a large crescent shaped flower bed, and laid 150mm of type 1 limestone subbase, whilst patch repairing the existing subbase across the entire drive. Finally, we compacted the driveway to produce a firm even surface and laid a 10mm sharp sand blinding to iron out any minor deformations in the compacted subbase material. We laid CORE Drive 50/30, joining the sheets as we progressed to form one matrix over the entire surface including the ramped access.

ADVANTAGES:

“PERFECT SERVICE AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE OF OTHER ALTERNATIVES” – MR AND MRS GREEN

This solution is a perfect response to our clients brief. It provides them with a free draining surface that is aligned with the aesthetic of the house – at a fraction of the cost of alternative surfacing options. The access ramp provides access to wheelchair users, offering easy entry and exiting from the building. The whole job from start to finish was completed within two days – minimising disruption in the process.
