Biaxial Geogrid 20 kN is a high-strength polypropylene grid designed to stabilise weak or variable ground. The grid provides strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions, so when it is installed beneath the sub-base the angular aggregate locks into the apertures to create a stiff, load-spreading layer. This helps control rutting, reduces deformation and can allow a reduction in sub-base thickness compared with unreinforced construction.

Uses:

  • Construction haul roads
  • Paved and unpaved roads
  • Railways and ports
  • Working platforms on weak and unsecure sub-soils
  • Parking and paved areas
  • Multi-layer applications

How it works

Biaxial Geogrid is laid directly over the prepared sub-grade, often in combination with a separating geotextile beneath. Sub-base aggregate is then placed and compacted over the grid. The angular particles bear against the grid ribs and project through the apertures, creating interlock between the grid and the aggregate. This composite layer is significantly stiffer than aggregate alone and distributes imposed loads over a wider area of sub-grade, improving performance and reducing deformation.

Roll sizes and coverage

Available options:

  • 2 x 75 m rolls (150 m² total coverage)

  • 2 x 50 m rolls (100 m² total coverage)

  • 4 x 50 m rolls (200 m² total coverage)

Key benefits

    • Reinforces soft, wet or variable sub-grades

    • Improves load distribution and bearing capacity

    • Reduces required sub-base thickness, saving aggregate and excavation

    • Controls rutting and differential settlement under repeated trafficking

    • Suitable for use with standard Type 1 and similar angular aggregates

    • Helps extend the service life of the pavement or working platform

Typical applications

      • Construction haul roads and site access tracks

      • Paved and unpaved roads and driveways

      • Rail yards, port facilities and industrial hardstandings

      • Working platforms over weak or unstable soils

      • Car parks, storage yards and paved areas

      • Multi-layer reinforced build-ups for heavy plant
