CORE EQUESTRIAN - Specialist Equine Surface
A specialist grid that is designed for the equestrian world. Our CORE Equestrian is suitable for:
- Outdoor Riding Arenas
- Indoor Riding Arenas
- Automatic Walkers
- Watering Areas
- Feeders, Turnouts and Pastures
- Round Pens
This grid can be used with grass and traditional tread layers such as equine rubber, silica sand and synthetic fibres. An incredibly strong grid that can be used not only for equestrian areas but also parking and access roads when filled with gravel.
High Density Polyethylene
The CORE Equestrian grid is made from pure grade high density polyethylene. The material build of the grid means that is remains permanently elastic, promoting natural horse movement but also a sturdy and firm surface for riding on. The high elasticity means it can withstand immense levels of pressure from the horses hooves galloping at high speeds, yet maintains its structural integrity at all times and will not crack.
Along with the demand for the structure of the grid to be made of reliable materials, there is a collective desire for the horses to be kept within the best conditions – with the surfacing being an integral part of their wellbeing and movement. Daily riding and free roaming within areas such as paddocks maintain the health of horses, and a surface that can maintain a mud-free and non-skidding environment is the precondition for all-weather paddocks.
Each sheet has an interlocking mechanism on all four sides, allowing all adjacent panels to be connected in every direction. This creates a continuous matrix across the entire surface and greatly improves load distribution.
An area that has been covered with our CORE Equestrian is capable of being used all year round. Even in the winter months, the equestrian grid offers sustainability and durability that ensure you can make the most of your equine surfacing in all weather conditions. By separating the substructure from the impact layer, the mixture of materials is avoided – thus exhibiting the best conditions for maintaining its structural integrity.
Free Draining Arena
The CORE Equestrian grid will allow you to maintain a free draining arena, paddock or menage that can be used all year round. By creating a separation layer between the ground and the traffic load, it prevents the surface from becoming saturated and subsequently ‘churned up’.
This is especially helpful in those high trafficked areas around feeding stations and frequently used gateways that can often collect water and become unsustainable throughout the colder, wetter months. By ensuring that the grids promote free drainage, it further reiterates the versatility of our grid by reinforcing the fact that the grid is an all weather grid.
One of the surfaces that can be achieved using CORE Equestrian is a waxed surface. Waxed surfaces in equine settings can offer a firmer footing for horses, as well as being one of the most low maintenance surfaces that an be used straight after it has been laid. Most popular for outdoor arenas due to its long life span and excellent stabillity.
For people who are perhaps pressed for time, waxed surfacing is an extremely popular choice as they don’t require irrigation. This makes them a great choice for peope who want a highly reliable surfce that has the capabilities to withstand heavy use with next to no maintenance.
A mixture of silica sand and synthetuc fibres, the mixture is then treated with a specific amunt of wax to ensure that the final wearing course offers enough stability and traction for horse use.
Non Waxed Surfacing
Non-waxed surfaces are the perfect choice for anyone who is looking to upgrade their surface from a non mixed surface. An attractive aspect of the surface is how easy it is to install, and that is only requires irrigation to keep it in perfect working order.
Made out of a washed silica sand combined with stabilising fibres. The silica sand has minimal clay and silt which lowers the amount of dust and ensures the surface can soak up moisure whilst still maintaining its drainage capabilities.
Using a sand that isn’t designed for equine use can be detrimental to your horse and unsuccessful as a surface for an arena. It’s important to to use equestrian silica sand that maintains a subangular shape to the grains, whilst also having a low clay content to provide stability and cushioning for your horse – as well as maintaining efficient drainage.
Ensuring that you use the correct silica sand is perhaps the first component to any horse riding area that has to be addressed, yet its usually recommended to mix the sand with a stabilising fibre, rubber chippings or even both. Ensuring the surface remains moist is important for it to maintain high levels of performance.
Rubber chippings are a great option for a riding arena. Whether they’re used as an added wearing course or from the start on a new build, when placed upon silica sand they help reduce compaction and offer an energy return with a cushioned ride. Often made from recycled materials, it does require irrigation to ensure it stays at its optimum performance level.
Rubber surfacing is also a great option if you’re looking for a surface that will fight the elements and ensure you don’t get a frozen surface during the harsh winter months.
