CORE BIAX 40.

40 kN/m biaxial geogrid for granular ground reinforcement.

Reinforce the layer. Spread the load.

CORE BIAX 40 is a polypropylene geogrid with 40 kN/m tensile strength in both principal directions. It reinforces compatible granular layers beneath roads, access routes, car parks and working platforms.

The open grid develops mechanical interlock with suitable angular aggregate. Choose BIAX 40 where its declared properties match the project design, rather than choosing by the highest number alone.

  • Reinforces in two directions
  • Restrains sideways aggregate movement
  • Supports load distribution within a designed granular layer

Where it works.

  • Temporary and permanent access roads
  • Car parks and industrial hardstandings
  • Designed working platforms
  • Sub-bases over weak or variable ground

Choosing for your project.

  • The grade number is a tensile-strength designation, not a permitted vehicle weight.
  • Aggregate grading, ground strength, traffic and layer depth all influence performance.
  • A separate geotextile may still be required for separation or filtration.

Installation guidance.

Prepare the ground, maintain continuity and protect the material during construction. Follow the approved project detail for overlaps, cover and compaction.

Open the geosynthetics guide
  1. Prepare the formationRemove obstructions that could damage the grid. Install a separation geotextile if specified.
  2. Position the gridRoll flat at the designed level and orientation. Maintain the approved overlaps and anchorage.
  3. Place suitable aggregateUse the specified grading and cover depth. Do not traffic directly on exposed geogrid.
  4. Compact and inspectCompact in controlled layers without displacing the grid. Check overlaps, cover, damage and levels before continuing.

Product questions.

Does BIAX 40 provide 40 kN/m in both directions?

Yes. The declared tensile strength is 40 kN/m in both the machine and cross-machine directions, tested to EN ISO 10319.

Can I reduce the depth of my sub-base?

A reinforced design may use less aggregate, but any reduction needs to be established for the actual ground, loading, aggregate and grid properties. There is no universal percentage saving.

Does BIAX replace a geotextile membrane?

No. BIAX provides reinforcement through aggregate interlock. A geotextile has a different job, separating materials and allowing water to filter through. Some projects need both.
